The book argues that the development of environmental awareness and so many pollution technologies are signs of a maturing industrial revolution - an industrial revolution evolution - in which industrial societies are learning that we can't treat the atmosphere and rivers as pollution dumping grounds anymore. The days of short-term unthinking economic development are over. The world has become a much more interconnected and interdependent planet since the industrial revolution began. The shift to a long-term thinking about environmental awareness, pollutions, project environmental impact statements, and global warming will require policies and leadership by governments and corporations which attract long term investment capital and encourage investment in longer term, more holistic and more environmental thinking. The result will be 1,000's of green collar jobs and a new round of technical innovation and invention that could possibly be the answer to the current global credit crisis and economic problems also. The future belongs to the young folks of today. What's the price of clean water today? Derivatives on the survival of the planet anyone? Lassaiz-faire environmentalism? The writing is on the wall, (+ to quote Bob Dylan) the times they are a'changing.
